too much politics

Pros

Employees are permitted to work from home at least once a week. There is a snack table, and there are free sodas and coffees. Even though I don’t consume any of those things, I still like the fact that they have them.

Cons

Time and effort are often wasted because there is a lack of communication between departments and within each department. For example, 2 groups maybe working on the same thing at the same time. Also, there are too much politics; people spend more time in fighting for power than getting more works done.

Pros

I am a midlevel Software Engineer with 5+ years of experience working in Cisco, specifically Voice Technology group. We have some really interesting Projects. Some of the best minds in the Industry work here. Managers just care if the targets are met, and not individual work hours. I got to learn a lot from senior Engineers/Tech leads. Best practises in software development. Scope of recognition is pretty high. If you come up with some thing really good/cool, senior management do recognize. Good Work Environment. All drinks free, but no free food though :(. Pay is 94k, but i think there are folks who earn more than me with the same experience. Bonuses depend on company wide policy and overall company's performance. Mine is 13% So, there is not much you can do if Cisco overall doesnt do well. Bonuses are dependent on grade level of the job position. Public transportation comes for free(Ecopasses from VTA) within Bay area. Paid-time-off is pretty good, you earn 1 day for every 8 days of work. Cisco pays for home internet.

Cons

Promotions, Salary increases seem to be rare. I havent seen more than 2 promotions in a year now, that too for very senior level engineers. I have seen alteast 5 people i know leave.

Pros

Hardworking, accessible experts all over the company! Beyond the IETF leadership, patents, and certifications, I can probably count on one hand the number of times a subject matter expert has declined an opportunity to discuss their field of expertise, especially with a customer. Individual contributors are the soul of this company, and many work after hours and on weekends to get the job done. Some may call them perfectionists and some may call them crazy, but the level of excellence I've seen from many coworkers is truly exceptional.

Cons

Management has gotten complacent and collaboration needs to improve among product lines.
