Pros

Great vision from CEO - Chambers turned internet "plumbing" company into software/application/unified communications/collaboration/video/data center & server company in the last 5-10 years. Great sales execution Great product line - It almost sells itself Good pay & commission checks (because of reason above) Ability to work remotely Empowerment - WebEx conferencing, softclient IP phone allows above Flexibility - Allows personal choices for work devices such as Macbook Pros (at company's expense!) & iPhones

Cons

Slow career advancement Unclear on how to get promotions Company is severely cutting costs - no more free beverage, home internet, etc. Perceived poor leadership from development organization - most of our technology & new product lines are gained through acquisitions Salary increases are very little - expect none to 3-5% a year Pace of work (at least in sales) is FAST. Must control own work life balance.

Pros

- Real recognition from upper management - Smart, technical hard working co-workers - Real team environment - Great place to work if you like the flexibility to work from home and the office - Great benefits even for contract employees

Cons

- 24 hour work environment can be a killer - Very hard to find your way up the ladder - Seems impossible to convert contractors to full-time employees

Pros

Good pay, time off, and benefits. Depending on the group, they do have reasonable work-life management. The nice thing is that employees seem to have the ability to move on to different groups (lateral moves) if they are tired of their projects. Cisco does have a new group (Emerging Technologies) that's trying to be more like a start-up environment by looking into new business areas.

Cons

Large company: Lots of processes, meetings galore. Political: It's more about who you know rather than your skill set. Cisco does have some really good people and groups though. Glass ceilings: Promotions are limited and you really need your manager to fight for you. If you are in a passive group, it's tough to move up.
