Competitive work culture and controlling cliques bad for software developers

Business Outlook
Pros
Competitive salary, decent benefits
Cons
The company rewards competition amongst peers which create a hostile and vicious work culture. In fields where collaboration is crucial for success, such as in software development, the competitive process inhibits creativity, risk-taking, and fails to build support and trust amongst teammates. Cliques of managers work together to give less than average ratings to those outside their circles. The bar is set high to get in the door then they grade on a curve once you get in. If everyone was very good to begin with then who is graded low on the curve? Those outside the cliques or those who failed to make side deals with key people.
