Pros

Good benefits, flexible work options, great severance package.

Cons

Highly political environment and managers are like clan leaders. A very hierarchical environment. COF wants to portray as a cutting edge technology company, while the core business is financial services. Everyone is after the "coolness factor" and just hop on buzzwords like cloud, big data, devops etc. and there is too much talk and no much output. Changes are too frequent, and layoffs at unexpected time, when you think the company is doing great. Recently, management thinks software programming is the only great job and wants all IT folks to do coding work.

Pros

decent salary, 7.5% 401k match, perks not that bad when compared with other traditional organizations like capital one.

Cons

capital one preaches one and practices one. you will be able to see this across all layers of management. every year when i speak to my directors they speak about promotion opportunities and expect you to make a difference in the organization etc., etc., and finally award promotion to non technical talents because there is no growth path for technical people who wants to stay technical. as you see upwards of the management hierarchy, all of them are from non technical background and hence they don't really like technical talents except for getting work done through them. only 1/10 will be technical talent and there will be a huge crowd of people who you will deal with everyday and get frustrated. you might start feeling very dumb over a period of time because the environment is not fostering enough.

Pros

Compensation, education (internal and external) and team building.

Cons

Bullied and sexually harassed by a co-worker and our boss told me not to report it to HR. Hired into a new position and next boss was an irrational, mirco-manager who drove numerous employees to leave. His boss told me this might be an issue before hiring me and it was huge problem. When I resigned and did my exit interview I was shocked to be told this boss marked me ineligible for rehire... without any reason. HR said all managers had the right to do this and there was nothing I could do about it. I confronted him and I asked him to go back and correct it. He was very embarrassed, he didn't know they would inform me.
