Pros

There are some very talented people to work with, and great skills to learn Good company values, although the competency model needs reviewing.

Cons

Good ol' boy network. Lack of diversity at Capital One is very apparent. And as rightfully pointed out by another reviewer, diversity goes beyond ethnicity. Most people working here are smart, but not "elite".

Pros

Cap One is located in Richmond, which is affordable and extremely family friendly. One of the best jobs in the city. Work-life balance (flex hours, vacation) is valued very much, which I loved. Decent salary, with room for promotional bonuses/yearly bonus and salary raises. Terrific employee training.

Cons

Cap One is famous for its junk mail - thus, many hours are spent creating work that many people may just throw in the trash = not inspiring. Processes are often drawn out (it may take 3-6 months to create such a letter). Day to day work can make you feel like cog in machine.

Pros

Great work environment and perks. Good benefits and pay. Genuinely "nice" company culture. Decisions are backed up by data rather than just being the "highest paid person's opinion."

Cons

The culture has swung toward being too collaborative and committees and group meetings are way overused now. When I started, you could come up with a good idea, run it by two levels of management and then at least get it tested on a small group of customers. Now I have to go to my manager, all of his peers, several other department's managers, a steering committee, (at least) two "project prioritization" groups because none of them alone are allowed to sign off on anything. Implementing good ideas can take 6-18 months over all. And the "cross calibration" system the company uses to hand out promotions and bonuses has completely devolved into a political bargaining exercise between managers.
