Pros

The resources of an Enterprise. Why do people rob banks, right? So the cash compensation—including signing bonus—is great. Strongly run relative to other large entities that make money from usury (banks, credit cards)... just look at how C1 recovered from 2008 financial crisis vs Wells Fargo or Bank of America. Stable and I think recession-proof job.

Cons

For a software engineer, things are bogged down. Use of AWS Cloud especially. And just so much process, anonymous systems sending emails demanding compliance, etc. They self insure, so can't get Kaiser in the Bay Area.

Pros

Good benefits, flexible work options, great severance package.

Cons

Highly political environment and managers are like clan leaders. A very hierarchical environment. COF wants to portray as a cutting edge technology company, while the core business is financial services. Everyone is after the "coolness factor" and just hop on buzzwords like cloud, big data, devops etc. and there is too much talk and no much output. Changes are too frequent, and layoffs at unexpected time, when you think the company is doing great. Recently, management thinks software programming is the only great job and wants all IT folks to do coding work.
