Pros

They are pretty much the only game in town if you want decent pay.

Cons

The amount of politics and inter-departmental backstabbing is worse than any company I have ever worked. We hired a bunch of DC (Fannie Mae/Freddie Mac) sharks who thrive on stamping out new ideas and replacing them with bean counters and yes-men. The women executives organized their own lobbying group to put more of their own into key positions, as did the GLT (Gay, Lesbian, and Transgendered). It's just gotten ridiculously out of control. It is 'Dilbert' on a gigantic scale, and no one has the courage to change it. Those who have tried, mysteriously end up 'redeployed' (code word for fired).

Pros

The compensation package is attractive. Bonus structure is enviable with spot bonuses for hard work on big projects.

Cons

A cut-throat, down right nasty environment where every one is an "expert" no matter how green. The business silos do not work well together - the animosity and competition is ruthless. Middle management drives toward unrealistic goals set by out of touch senior management. (Date driven projects cutting scope to meet schedule resulting in a poorly executed, half-baked product.) The customer is an account and not the reason for doing business.

Pros

- Good brand as the company is quite big in the US - Smart and competent employees - Free snacks

Cons

- Getting promoted is tough. It often feels less about the work you do and more about who sees it. Your manager has to be your hype person; if they stay quiet, your career does too. - Job titles can be misleading. A Data Scientist might spend all day writing SQL, while a Business Analyst somehow ends up helping with machine learning. The title says one thing, the calendar says another. - Remote work is mostly gone. The laptop is still portable, but apparently you are not. - There is a fair amount of office politics. Sometimes doing the work is only half the job; the other half is making sure the right people know you did it. - Data teams do not always get the respect they deserve. Business teams often treat them less like strategic partners and more like “the people who fix the spreadsheet.”
