Pros

- slow days on projects would result in good work life balance - if bureaucracy and politcs don't bother you, or you get on a good project with minimal resistance, it could be fun - good exposure to different levels of management - good opportunity to develop soft skills, IF you're given it - if you play the game right, you'll have a very happy career

Cons

- levels seem very important and a catch 22 in order to get promoted. You can't get promoted unless you have certain criteria, but aren't given the opportunity or 'allowed' to participate in certain conversations due to levels. Unless you are lucky and find the opportunity to show initiative. - promotions within my own team require me to go through an HR screening process, which i find is absurd - much resistance to change and lack of transparency make it difficult for project stakeholders and team members to understand what's going on - doing more than what's required, or going above and beyond sometimes is viewed as not doing what you're told, and not being a team player - if you play the game right, you'll have a happy career, with little integrity

Pros

If you are starting you IT career then its a good place, you have opportunities to learn new things.

Cons

It’s not a great place for seasoned IT professionals who like to stay technical. The pay is definitely not that great. Technical people are pushed to do more of non-techie stuff off which you really get bored. Project planning and management is one area which really sucks all across CIBC.
