Pros

Views from office, nothing else.

Cons

Workplace abuse often starts when you perform well then speak up about a problem. If your boss is insecure, they see you as a threat and spread a false narrative about you to push you to the point you leave. Exactly what happened to me here. Also there is no office culture. Why have staff in 9-5p when more than half the brokers show up to the office once a week. 1/10, Would not recommend.

Pros

Decent benefits including a discount program on hundreds of companies. CBRE's notoriety is a huge pro in itself, especially in real estate. Personally, I think our CEO is great - I'm confident with his leadership. I have had generous raises twice now - I'll give them credit where it's due!

Cons

This role is really limiting in terms of growth and you have to accept that you're at the bottom of the foodchain in a very hierarchical company. You're going to work with brokers and they have the reputation of being very difficult to work with and rightfully so. Even the nice ones can be cut-throat at times. In general, it is a lot of old money which means a lot of privileged people. Also, the tech is awful - there have been numerous times when I simply couldn't work because my computer would crash or restrict me from doing my job. Seems like a silly issue for a billion-dollar company.

Pros

You will learn a lot, great experience builder for both general ledger accounting practices at large and real estate in specific. Exposure to multiple different accounting softwares. Looks great on a Resume.

Cons

The controller of the department (as of 2022) is the epitome of a toddler tyrant boss. She is a regular verbal abuser and an expert gaslighter. She is truly the absolute worst person I have ever had the misfortune of working with. As long as she is head of the department, I would never recommend a job here. Senior management encourages dogmatic enforcement of all policies and procedures, but what actually gets enforced is at the whim of whomever is reviewing your work. No two reviewers have the exact same preferences, so the job becomes less about doing your job correctly and more about managing your time around trying to predict or attempting to interpret your reviewer's personal preferences. Other reviewers have mentioned other relevant cons - crazy expectations / working hours but then they guilt trip you about getting the OT approved, poor communication from management, no joy / team spirit / culture. The department manager is smart, competent, and a good manager, but she is held back by the department controller (think Yubaba from Spirited Away) and the department supervisor, who is favored by the controller because she embraces her dogmatic attitude, but is actually a terrible supervisor because she has the worst communication skills I've ever seen in my life. Overall, If you have a thick skin, this is a great place to learn skills and softwares. It looks and feels great on a resume. But the working environment is so 1970's toxic that you wonder if the trauma from working there was really worth it.
