Pros

Some good, hard working, decent people but they'll never get anywhere in the business as they are too busy working instead of brown nosing.

Cons

Expect to be spoken to like a small child and backstabbed by power tripping management. Not one of them in that office has the slightest clue what they are doing nor the relevant experience or qualifications, all talk and no walk. Managers forgot where they came from, which most of the time was fresh out of school and into a minimum wage job for the next 10 years. Everything is rushed and ALWAYS goes wrong and needs fixing. Managers seem to have a very high opinion of themselves which is funny really 'cos you're more likely to get promoted by sexual favours than actually working. Computer systems are a disgrace. No on site computing specialist. Air conditioning broken for years, no clean air, roasting hot or freezing cold. People really do not matter there. Have a good idea? Keep it to yourself 'cos if the managers see you as a threat to their chance of promotion they will screw you over in a flash, which includes stealing your ideas and/or manipulating your yearly review. If you don't like it you will 'easily' be replaced. Intelligent, good workers are left to rot when people are getting promoted through butt kissing and bribery and who can make the boss laugh the most. The salary is dire and years behind other retail banks. Sexist in relation to all promotion of females while the males get ignored. Utterly disgusting treatment of staff, particularly those with disabilities and/or health problems. Childish culture, much like school, in the remedial class. Management couldn't give a toss about your work/life balance. The 'Barclays Values' are promoted but the exact opposite is actually what occurs! Undisciplined and disorganized staff and processes. Worst place I have ever worked and I've been around a bit!

Very disappointing and upsetting to read your comments. It is very clear that you did not enjoy working with us and had a bad personal experience with the team you worked in. We have very clear and unbiased promotion processes and they are based on merit, skills, experience and future potential. They are not gender driven. The commitment and engagement of our colleagues is critical to our success and therefore we prioritise ensuring we have a positive and developmental culture. I am really sorry that this did not work out for you and wish you every success in your next career move.

Pros

nothing good about working here

Cons

Poor pay only £16k. If yr branch manager doesn't like you it will never go up. No bonus or incentive. Lot of pressure to push products on to customers. Have to work overtime for free. Have to work Saturdays. All holiday requests are refused. No work life balance at all.

Pros

CV good place to work temporarily to understand what you don't want and how a large organization works despite having robust reporting. A lot of learning opportunities however the politics are a hinderance with a very strong blame culture. Pay reasonably good however being squeezed for new recruits due to stagnant external market.

Cons

High attrition in finance roles with Head Office driving a lot of the chaos due to a lack of understanding of the business issues. Finance is very top heavy (MDs/ Directors) and now you have highly competent AVPs and VPs leaving out of frustration as the senior managers hold on to their roles in desperation. Lack of progression due to a number of average talented people who have been at the bank for a while blocking the way. Anyone who has been there more than 3/4 years seems to miss the good old days and more of a hinderance to progress as it will mean more work for them. HR is very switched off.. and do not help or provide any guidance. Culture and Values are non existant as the CEO's own integrity has been questioned re:whistle blowing. Bonuses are used to align total comp and not performance.
