Pros

Compensation is good but not the best as compared to other captive untis (like other British and American banks - like BoA, Morgan Stanley, RBS, JPMC). Compensation is peanuts as compared to the amount of work that one is made to do. There is work from home options but seldom. Hike is above industry average, but many are sacrificed for others to get a decent hike. Trainings are good.

Cons

Heavy politics. Need to use all the talent not to do productive technical work but to save skin and avoid from getting trapped. Very ugly competition at top level that percolates down. Need to fight with peers in other teams only because the bosses are competitive and fighting out. Worked in several banks prior to this, and never experienced a culture as bad. Work pressure is no less, as they make a person do 2-3 persons' work. Growth is slow as it is in any captive unit. No one is helpful. No one likes questions being asked. Manager does not like if you ask him/her questions. Manager does not like even if you do not ask him something and ask someone else. Huge resource problems. You are expected to do work, but never provided with resources. Some managers are very psycho. They make life of their employees difficult only so that they can help them with resources later and get a sense of achievement. Work hours are extremely stress-full, but after that you are not disturbed till next day (but its difficult to get rid of the thoughts of activities that happened throughout the day).

Pros

Meals and Cabs (unless you have no foresight, you will be attracted with this aspect only)

Cons

1. Management is not Employee friendly, especially old employees (they treat them and think of them in management discussions as 'baggage' and thus focus on new-hires). 2. Always give in to any kind of customer demand , whether justified or not. 3. Promotes stretching and over-the-weekend work culture. 4. Things told in interviews are much better and prospective than actually given on the floor. If they told you 10 things, you would be actually doing 2-3 things out of that only and sometimes not even those, but totally different . And justify by saying this has become more critical now , so you need to do this. 5. Separate team-divisions are not comfortable with each other and inter-team movements tough if team heads do not like each other. 6. Deadend of career to people who are stuck up in low standard work and 'mirage' of IJP is shown. 7. IJP policies are non-transparent and some teams are always looked as sub standard, so people stuck in that team are not able to move. 8. Sick mindset of management, inhumane behaviour and treat you like their servants. I have actually seen some girls crying in cafeteria as they got scolded for small things. 9. Some people are overworked, some are underworked. 10. Lie blatantly in while hiring and ask things at very higher level to show the that company is great. But reality explodes when you come on the floor.

Pros

If you believe that you can weather out a storm, best place to test yourself.

Cons

Barclays Shared Services is one place where you will find that polishing your manager's apples is what works. The management is never transparent and has an in your face attitude when confronted and deals with these issues with high handedness. If you do not like it leave but do not expect us to be fair in our dealings with the employees. Bias in management decision ranging from verbal recognition to reward and recognition, even in sending people to just be a participant at an award ceremony, to sending people onshore in UK is blatant. You might get a top rating, appreciation from the UK head of businesses, so much so that they do not want anyone else in the team to handle their work and never let you go, but might never get any opportunity just because the management wants you to take crap or leave.
