Pros

Ambitious headline program of work. Goal to be top wealth manager within 5 years. Central location within New York City.

Cons

Accountability absent. Lots of deadwood. Management focused on tactical issues and not leading to execute the strategic vision. Social employer.

Pros

Barclays Wealth brand - looks good on your CV Good work/life balance time off - when requested people are friendly job progression - but only if you are like by management (all for the wrong reason)

Cons

management absolute joke ! No communication skills, more politics then the british government! unskilled people, there are too many people that are not skilled in their jobs (inclusive of management) salary is poor.....you are better off working in a retail store.....and lest not forget bonuses...absolute joke, wanted to give my bonus back to the bank. Barclays wealth does not recieve the same benefits like the investment banking arm communication is poor (im sure I said that already) very stingy - we have to buy our own tea/coffe/sugar (guess i should be lucky that they provide the hot water) too sales focus and not customer focused No training provided on systems unfair personal development grading ......................an absolute shocker of a company...........!!!

Pros

Some team managers and staff are great to work with, that was the only part of my experience I enjoyed.

Cons

I was heavily micromanaged a lot of my time here, to the point I was ill constantly, through stress. Towards the end of my time at Barclays I requested my HR notes to have statements left about my mental health and calling me a liar. After a grievance raised I was told the manager in question would receive retraining. I find it appalling that such a large company think that behaviour is acceptable. Many times I was refused reasonable adjustments for health reasons, approved by my GP and occupational health. These were including, extended absence triggers, extra break allowances and phased returns. When I pushed back there was no compassion or empathy. I was hounded to reduce my break usage, in a regular basis and bullied. Twice I was threatened with a final written warning though no first warning in place. Rules don’t seem to apply at Barclays. One of my final interactions, I was asked to take part in a video call to be able to call in sick and show my ailment. Unbelievable. When I brought this up later it was dismissed as a misunderstanding. Further to all of this, they are no care for work life balance or responsibilities out side of work, they are deemed as ‘other people’s problems’. I was told this while caring for a family member. Disgusting Call centre culture is appalling. No wonder they have a high turnover rate of staff.
