Aurecon used to be a great place to work at, but now management (both upper and middle) have weaved their deluded magic to create what it is today.
Upper management is completely out of touch with what really goes on at the ground level. Upper management tells you to get with their innovation program or get out of the way, which is a fair point, but it's all well and good when you're one of the ones at the top that get to fly around the country and the world to attend junkets. It's a completely different kettle of fish at the bottom. You're the one that works the unpaid overtime, you're the one that is effectively chained to the desk, you're the one that is delivering the projects and doing the BILLABLE hours that actually brings the cash into the company to keep the organisation afloat. And for all your hard work and unpaid overtime, you get rewarded with a pat on the back and a gold star mention on the company intranet, saying how well you've contributed to the company... I ask you, how can you not be having fun?
Middle management is even worse, they are a bunch of yes men (yes I said men, despite the fact that Aurecon tries to be inclusive and promotes equality, the vast majority of new promotions and new hires into the senior positions are still those with the y chromosome.) Middle management deflects blame and responsibility when times are tough, yet claim all the glory when things are going well.
Remuneration and career development is limited, unless you're a senior member of the team who's part of the boys club. I've heard in person from the regional manager saying that Aurecon pays by the market rate, and yet analytical evidence from Engineers Australia and Professionals Australia salary reports suggests otherwise. The sentiment with middle management is that you'll only get promoted if there is an empty spot available that you can fill. God forbid if there is someone with a similar role and skills, but at a higher classification than you, you'll be forever stuck in quagmire. Furthermore, middle management claim that no "pay band" exists and yet it is pretty clear when you reach the top tier of your pay band, you'll be receiving no remuneration increase unless you get promoted (refer to my promotion comment above). Also the Consumer Price Index/Inflation is non existent within the Aurecon vocabulary.
