Pros

It allows for flexibility. They are great compared to other pharma companies, but its really about your manager and I have a WONDERFUL manager. The division you work for is also very important. AstraZeneca is more about the result than the process of getting there. You dont HAVE to follow some ridiculous sales model as long as you make the sale. Not super hard on closing either. From my understanding, the training department may actually be stepping away from closing at all. Sales meeting are super positive and motivating. THey give out a lot of awards and give a lot of recognition.

Cons

The benefits may not be as good as some other companies. They are going through lay offs galore right now, although this is the case with just about every company in the pharmaceutical industry at this time. If you are set on pharma, AZ is the way to go however i would probably suggest steering clear of the industry all together. Now, Ive also heard horrow stories of working with bad managers. In times when people are worried about losing their jobs, they are looking in their own best interest and will throw you under the bus to get ahead.

Pros

Great products that you feel good about (i.e. not making anything for ED) employees can believe in and be inspired to support. Great benefits even compared to other big-pharma, although declining due to costs.

Cons

Diversity initiative was well intentioned, but poorly executed. Felt very forced and could be seen in staffing decisions. Showed how management simply chases the next big thing.

Pros

AstraZeneca provides one of the best compensation/benefits packages I've ever seen. It provides financial assistance with adoption, infertility, matching charitable contributions, etc. You have autonomy in your job with the level of micro-management dependent on your direct manager. AstraZeneca has a strong suite of pharmaceutical products that you can be proud to sell. It has the leading product in many drug classes.

Cons

Currently, management is too concerned with monitoring activity and not focused enough on selling. The brand teams are consumed with activity surrounding detailing from the laptop which is not effective for everyone. They are unable to listen to the sales force and understand that this is not a tool for all people and all physicians. Some managers micromanage you to death. Pharma sales in general has become more of a marketing job than a sales job. You are told what to say more than you're able to think for yourself. The opportunity for growth and advancement in your career is limited if you don't want to relocate a lot.
