Pros

Good work-life balance. Freedom to learn and work on new things. Lots of smart people as far as analog design is concerned.

Cons

Management not very competent. Still mostly a component company and reactive. Pay raises are pretty low and barely keep up with inflation.

Pros

Getting to work in design, verification, simulation, timing analysis, synthesis and layout provide a good all-round work experience and career launch pad, if you are lucky. Senior designers are very talented and experienced. Good place to be if you are planning to leave for higher studies or switch jobs.

Cons

Management is TOTALLY unresponsive to employees' personal needs. Leave approval is tough and unpaid overtime is a daily phenomenon. Pay is peanuts compared to similar job profiles. There is no career growth ("conservative"). Company doesn't spend on employee training or technical conferences. Senior designers are too overloaded to mentor anybody. They didn't need to layoff anybody because the average employee here leaves after three years anyway!

Pros

1. Projects are research oriented 2. Excellent work life balance 3. Flat technical hierarchy 4. Very friendly group of people 5. People induldge in extra cirricular during lunch -- running, biking, swimming, ultimate frisbee, yoga etc. 6. 401k is execellent 7. Good professional advancement 8. No hard deadlines

Cons

1. You need to be self motivated and show lots of initiation. Projects don't come to you - u need to make them happen. 2. Health coverage is shrinking every year 3. Pay has been frozen for 2 years now ---- some frustated engineers bcos of that. 4. Upper management doesnt have clear goals for the company --- CEO regurgitates what he said 5. years ago in quarterly updates. 6. Dont see much career advancement 7. Feel isolated from silicon valley dynamics 8. Worst IMMIGRATION department. If you need to apply for green card they have a very slow and incompetant legal department. I've finished 3 years and still not started the process.
