Pros

Dealing with huge amount of e-commerce data Super scaling DW infrastructure Strong hands-on for end-to-end BI/DW practice Unique ELT framework

Cons

Throwing hardware upon problems Barely polished data model KOL and operational pressure is very high Poor medical insurance compared with Google, MS, Expedia in Seattle area High turn-over rate If stock price goes up, then you get less RSU next year because your previous RSU's value is too much

Pros

I wrote a review exactly one year ago, so I felt it was time to write another one. The pros are pretty much the same; good salary considering you don't need a college education, and it is easy to get hired here, so if you want to work and you work hard, then you will be hired. The insurance is really good and you have a 401K. Amazon really is customer centric,to a fault. My FC got AC for the summer!

Cons

Working hard is a Pro and a Con. The bad side is the harder you work, the more they expect. They take everything you have and you do not get a whole lot back. Sometimes your reward for working hard is mandatory overtime. Over the last year, our perks have changed for the worse. We used to get $10 and $20 Amazon gift cards, and last peak that turned into $5 gas cards. When I found this out it was pretty discouraging. As much as this company makes you would think that the perks would be getting better, not worse! We just had a rate increase for my department, which is no big deal, but there was no compensation for it. As far as work/life balance, that is still pretty bad. For associates it's not near as bad as managers, as Amazon will suck your life away. As I said in the Pros, Amazon is customer centric to a fault. The company needs to compensate for the hard work of the employees. I believe that if they did this, then the attitude of alot of the employees would change for the better, as there is quite a bit of behavioral problems and negativity. As I mentioned in the Pros, my FC got AC for the summer, so at the least we dont feel like we are working in a sweat shop.

Pros

Lots of smart people, great projects, good values employees can support for the most part, and it has fairly good opportunities to work in other areas if you desire.

Cons

1. Very bad work life balance, and the company is more than ok with hiring employees and just burning them out, " they can always be replaced" is the mantra, and thus work life balance is out the door. 2.Comp is ok for Seattle, but poor industry-wide, as they trick you with stock grants, thus you don't make the money unless you stay for 4-5 years, if you get a promotion, you will see a small base salary increase, and stock grants (which you will not see for 1-2 years) Thus, they promote you, have you work even harder for 1-2 years, just so you can get the money your promotion came with 2 years earlier....really underhanded of them as a company. 3. Recruiting at amazon is hard, and some of the recruiting managers are great, others are down-right just mean people. The buisness is fun to work with, but usually you don't have enough resources to do right by them as the turn-over in the company drives high hiring volume- which you will never fully get ahead of due the poor quality of life all around in the company. As a recruiter you will work a lot, and for the pay its not worth it.
