Pros

None - they try to make you feel as though the firm is "cool" by having events

Cons

They present the job to be very strategic, a role that requires skill and intelligence. However, in reality, the job is completely administrative and doesn't require much skill or thinking. I would strongly recommend looking elsewhere, especially if you are coming from an Ivy league (or similar) school. This is a basic sales role, much like a glorified call center - where they are only looking to sell calls to their clients. They work is very mundane and administrative (constantly scheduling phone calls, sending calendar invites, searching for "experts" on the internal database and Linkedin, cold-calling throughout the day. There is no real research element in the job (unless you consider research to be doing searches on Linkedin), nor any sort of consulting. For those saying this job gives you "industry knowledge". Well - if you think speaking to an expert for 2-3 minutes gives you some major insight into an industry - sure. But, in reality, most experts see Alphasights as a middleman (which it is) and want to minimize their interaction with them - so as to speak directly with the client. Essentially, the level of industry knowledge is extremely limited, and it cursory. It is also worth noting that 99% of interactions with clients and experts happen over the phone, so if you're looking to build any client interaction skills etc. - this role will not help with that either. Additionally, given the nature of the job, you are constantly micro-managed throughout the day - and provide minor updates to managers on a throughout the day (e.g. called 10 advisors, left them a voicemail, emailed them, heard back from 1 of them etc.) Coming to "managers" - most of them have 2 years of work experience, and are not necessarily people you would typically consider mentors or look up to. Their sole aim is to sell more calls to clients, and aren't necessarily intellectually motivated. Finally, the compensation and benefits are significantly below industry standards - especially if they are trying to recruit from top schools.

Pros

Thinking through all the options I was looking at in my final year at university, and considering all of the roles and firms my peers went into, I'm extremely glad with the choice I made to start my career here. Strong base salary and extremely competitive monthly bonus system, decent hours and have never worked a weekend unlike most of my peer group. You also get the opportunity to run your own team within 2 years which was something that really appealed to me, especially when the people are all fun outgoing types you'd want to spend your spare time with.

Cons

The firm is constantly changing I guess, but for me that's a plus. Wanted to experience a high-growth smaller company versus being a small piece in a "traditional" graduate recruiter.

Great & Getting Better

Pros

Exposure to lots of different industries - In the Client Service role, you will get exposure to a wide variety of industries and it's up to you to capitalize on that. While some may view the role as "monotonous", those people simply aren't engaging their brains. If you get hired, you are A. smart and B. hard working. If you engage those assets to the job, you will learn a ton about every industry from experts who have been in their industries forever. That’s extremely valuable and decidedly not boring. Amazing people - The team at AlphaSights works hard, plays hard and supports each other. Rarely will you find a company or group of people so strongly invested in each other’s mutual success. Across levels in the company, I have built lifelong connections and go-to people that I can engage with for the rest of my career. Incredible growth opportunity for those who perform - If you bring your A-game, you will be recognized and rewarded. End of story.

Cons

Chips on shoulders - Young associates, while extremely smart seem to have high opinions of themselves and expect to be "gifted" promotion and mentorship from the company. The most successful associates and managers have the smart + humble combo, and bust their butts to find mentors inside and outside of the business. As an outgoing manager who worked hard for what (s)he got, it was extremely frustrating when new associates expected promotions or mentorship simply to be handed to them. Growing Pains - While title changes and restructuring are part of any company’s evolution, the short term pain is always frustrating. If you’re able to see the bigger picture and actually listen what management is saying to you, it will pan out.
