Pros

The excitement of being able to make a difference to a region that needs development the most. It is a privilege that few get.

Cons

The top management is often arbitrary and opaque. While most people find tremendous satisfaction in being a part of the development delivery, there is frustration at senior level appointments and many departments are perceived as having been compromised through promotions.

Pros

Strong Development Impact: Opportunity to work on high-impact projects that drive economic growth, infrastructure, and poverty reduction across Africa. Multicultural, Pan-African Environment: Exposure to a diverse, highly skilled workforce and collaboration with governments, DFIs, and private sector actors from across the continent and beyond. Competitive Compensation & Benefits: Attractive salary packages, tax-free allowances, strong pension, and generous leave policies compared to many public institutions. Influential Network & Career Growth: Access to senior policymakers, private investors, and global development leaders, which can significantly expand professional networks and open future opportunities.

Cons

Bureaucratic Processes: Decision-making can be slow due to internal layers of approval, institutional procedures, and political considerations. Limited Flexibility in Innovation: Risk appetite and space for creative structuring or new approaches may be constrained by internal policies and shareholder dynamics. Location & Mobility Constraints: HQ is in Abidjan, which may not suit everyone, and field postings or mission travel can be extensive and demanding. Performance Recognition Gaps: Career progression and recognition can sometimes feel tied to internal politics or tenure rather than pure merit/performance
