Pros

At Accenture it is best to start right out from university and not as an experienced hire, which they do when you have spent a few years at another industrial firm before. The reason is that if you don't have another experience and are kind of brainwashed by Accenture you will never know what else is out there and will not complain about many handcuffs they put on you. However, if you are mentally very strong and show leadership and management skills you can achieve things! At least for some time. After that it is tiring. Salaray is quite good if you can get promoted quickly. However the level of promotion is getting flat pretty quickly and after, say 3 years, it is time to move on.

Cons

Work life balance. What is that? You sign up in your work contract for 40h/week and anything beyond has to be accepted. That means, if you get an incompetent or sadistic engagement partner, you are virtually property to the firm, a slave in golden handcuffs. I had many projects where we usually ended up at midnight at the clients side, had a day team review at McDonalds until 1AM and had to be at the team pre-meeting at 8AM. Sometimes, when work was more than budgeted in the plan, we worked until sunrise. Even on short notice, partners might call you on Friday afternoon or on the weekend to do some "urgent" work. Weekends, public holidays... what is that? Complaining means you are not willing to go the extra mile. If you complain, or dare to leave office in summer just somtimes before sunset, you might get into trouble. Recruiting at universities was a pain in the ass, because you were expected to promise those poor suckers the blue sky, well knowing that nothing you promise is true, except miserable life. HR at Accenture is mostly incompetent and disconnected from real business.,they just follow their orders to recruit a given number of consultants. There is no feedback on projects or yearly project discussion. Just the presentation of facts what others (who are they?) think of you and that's it. There was a 360° degree feedback proposed, but in reality your supervisors can grade you as they wish, just top down. No chance to object. Accenture is an umbrella of diverent firms. Management consulting, strategy consulting (business winding down now) and technology consulting are different firms and people and cultures don't mix at all.

Pros

In a tough economy it helps to work for a global company. Accenture is also very geared towards a work/life balance. If you are good at autonomy and self-starting, this is the place you can grow.

Cons

Reviews are only once a year and there are no real-time promotions. If you have a bad year or even just a part of it, you have an entire year to wait for any recognition of improvement.

Pros

Name recognition. The quality of employees is fairly high, mostly intelligent people. Some decent perks like dinners and lunches paid for by the company.

Cons

Terrible promotion process. The performance rating system is completely subjective. There is little visibility on how people are reviewed. You have a few people who either make or break your career. You may end up having a ridiculously unintelligent and incompetent supervisor who will destroy your chances for promotion, and there is little visibility on how he or she rates you. The rating system is completely determined by peoples subjective view of you, rather than your actual performance. If you find a manager or career counselor here then stay, otherwise you are set for a mediocre career at Accenture at best
