Pros

You get great benefits and overall the job is not too stressful. I enjoy being an RSC because I not think the job is too stressful and I enjoy being at work. In my store pretty much all the reps get along and help each other out, so this job has not only been a great way to make money but it has also been a great way to make friends. Customers usually are pretty good to work with so it is really rewarding when they are satisfied with their service and products. This job has given me many skills that I plan to use for the rest of my life.

Cons

I hate having to work on weekends and that is what you have to do in order to make money because that is when all the customers come. I also hate when customers are rude or difficult to work with. Sometimes they treat you so poorly like you are not even worthy to speak with them. They also lie all the time to try to get us to bend our policy. I also don’t like having to stand up for eight hours. I feet and legs hurt when I get home.

Pros

Salary is good if you started a long time ago and worked your way up. 401K is good - match of 80% on the basic 6% contribution (that's better than the 67% from the old AT&T). If you are lucky to find yourself in the AT&T Labs unit, there is still interesting work that does not get outsourced to IBM (like legacy projects) and then end up in India.

Cons

These Texans (new SBC management) are some serious bunch of bean counters. It seems as if the only thing that matters to them is process and measuring it. Processes change every 1.5 years. Those are the guys that have job security. They have sucked any kind of creativity and enjoyment completely out of software development. They call us software developers "factory" - it's even in their ridiculous online training. Project Managers are valued - but worked like dogs. Benefits packages are declining every year, but I guess that's the way things are going with all large corporations in this global economy.

Pros

There is an opportunity to make a decent salary and it is a decent place to start a career. Due to the sheer size of AT&T there is an opportunity to learn many different asspects of Telecomunications and General Business.

Cons

AT&T has poor management and entirely too many executives. Due to the emense bureaucratic structure a great deal of time is spent in justifying the job or jobs that you intend to do instead of just accomplishing them. If you are a first line manager there is a good chance that you will be given unionized labor. The problem here is the corporate culture has lead to an us vs. them thought process on both sides. This is another source of frustration. HR has been converted to a mostly computer based system and benifits are reduced yearly. Receiving a promotion is very dificult.
