Pros

- The normal/non-power mad people that work there were like a second family that supported each other through this companies tyranny. - The customers were mostly genuinely lovely and it was great to have regulars and build up rapport with them, also these customers themselves understood how hard it was to work in such an understaffed and poorly managed store and supported us rather than complained. genuinely sweet people. - in theory you are supposed to be rewarded with "star points" which equal money for various things. - 10% discount on everything minus fuel, cigarettes & lottery

Cons

- Constant spying. - Belittlement of staff. - Rewards for back stabbing and telling tales to the manager. - Constant suspicion and wrongful accusations of stealing. - Expected to do 5 jobs at once while management and favourite staff loiter in the back room smoking and gossiping. - Never get the breaks you are supposed to have. - Lazy supervisors who would give there responsibilities to colleagues with no training so they could go home early e.g. leaving us to cash up alone at night, putting extremely busy staff on clean up duty, making staff who were on breaks to process huge deliveries of produce, taking staff from the checkouts to do less desirable jobs of other more highly favoured staff. - Absolute panic and chaos at the checkouts with no guidance or support whatsoever, but then being reprimanded for having queuing customers. - Favouritism to the extreme. - Contract hours not honoured. - Bullying of new staff. - Jealousy and sabotage of anyone who did not intend to work at ASDA for the rest of their lives. - No union representative. - Votes rigged in colleague voice meetings (I was in it and was disgusted by what I saw) - Screamed at and threatened by manager on a daily basis, female colleagues walking out of the store in tears some days over the most minimal mistakes e.g not knowing how to do a refund (because they were never trained!!!!) - Literally having to beg to be given new uniforms and still not getting it (AFTER 3 YEARS OF THE SAME ONE!!) - A lot of hours never being paid and being told there was nothing we could do about it. - Absolutely no room to progress (Not that I'd want to) unless you were a favourite of the manager. - People being signed off as sick for depression for months at a time due to the stress of working there. - No work life balance. go above and beyond or go home, there is no in betweem

Pros

Good pay for a low skilled job, good job for students or older people, very flexible working hours, managers aren't very strict, management respect you.

Cons

It's hard to progress unless you are working on certain departments, the customers can be horrible especially in store in the middle of cities.
