Pros

Lots of responsibility, very dynamic, great opportunity to learn a lot in a first jobs (operations, unions, staffing, oversight, delegation, responsibility, budgets, planning).

Cons

If you don't like being outdoors, could be a negative (I loved it). Union employees can be challenging, but can be overcome by building great relationships with them.

Pros

-Managing one of the largest port operations in North America. -Working with the International Longshoremen's Association. -Learning about ship stowage and vessel operations. Precisely how a ship gets loaded and unloaded according to customer and company needs.

Cons

-Working with the International Longshoremen's Association. -Long shifts of 12 hours, night shifts. -Lots of moving parts and departments that don't communicate effectively, resulting in operational slowdowns.
