Pros

the people, so many of the Aldi family are amazing people that work incredibly hard. The hourly pay is the best in the industry, but this still doesn't equate to the amount of extra work the business demands compared to their competitors. In-store jobs are physical, which I enjoy, I'll walk up anywhere between 8-12 miles a shift, the role definitely keeps you active.

Cons

The business has cut and cut and cut the in-store hours, the staff in-store are ever increasingly stressed and the demands of the role are always increasing whilst the role perks are reduced. The business is slowly passing job tasks down the food chain- deputy store managers are expected to act as assistant store managers, assistant store managers as store managers, and store managers as area managers, but is there increased pay for this work load? No. The targets set are very numbers based, and incredibly difficult to hit without being manipulated, but as long as head office can see that their numbers are being hit they will continue to squeeze and squeeze. Aldi prides itself on being the UK's favourite place to shop, but it has a very very long way to go if it wants to be the favourite place to work. Work-life balance is minimal, shift patterns make it difficult to solidify any routine, If the business continues to squeeze in the way it is it will push a lot of very good people out of the business, we're talking years and years of Aldi experience which cannot be replaced. The business is also incredibly good at dangling the carrot for people with potential promotion opportunities, but will inevitably string this out as long as they can, I know of several people promised promotions, or have been undergoing their promotion via "store-time" for considerably longer than what they should have been. I am getting out as soon as I can.
