Pros

The paycheck, free company car and PTO

Cons

You will be on-call 24-7. You will get calls at 2am because of a refrigeration break-down, burglary alarm etc. Your store managers will call you at 5am when their delivery hasn't arrived on-time and at 10pm when they are unable to alarm their store. Want to go see a movie or go out to dinner with your significant other? Expect to have multiple voicemail messages waiting for you after. This job requires almost zero brain power and you will only be a slave to the company. The daily menial tasks you have to give to your store managers are borderline embarrasing: "Can you clean your milk door"?, "Can you scrape the gum off the floor in the corner?" When hired, you will be painted a picture that if you work hard, you can become a director within 4 years. The only problem is, promotions are few and far between. And once you are in a director role, the job is a dead-end and almost as menial as the DM level. You think this is good job experience out of college and you want to try it for a few years and then springboard into something new? Think again. No one values the skills you learn at Aldi, because quite frankly, there aren't any.

Pros

I worked for Aldi for five years as a District Manager. The leadership was tough on our team, but taught us so much about how to get results and be the kind of leader that motivates their team for results. The training program is unmatched and offers in depth training workshops on understanding and impacting financials, personnel development, interviewing, and time management and planning. I started with Aldi right out of college and I certainly worked hard, but leadership encouraged me to work smarter not harder and showed us that when you put in the work and train your team, you're able to better manage your work/life balance. None of my fellow recent grads had anywhere close to the level of responsibility or reward in their new roles. It was extremely rewarding because they give you a lot of autonomy in decision making at a young age and you're able to learn from your mistakes. I can't thank Aldi enough for the time I spent there. It really shaped who I am as a professional today and what I expect from any organization moving forward.

Cons

I think some people see the fact that it is hard work as a con. But, I simply disagree. The work ethic and time management skills I learned here have made me successful today. I don't understand why anyone would expect to make the fantastic salary, have outstanding vacation and a company car without working hard in return.

Pros

ALDI's business model is skyrocketing throughout the US. Rapid remodeling and new store openings. It's sad to see so many store managers and DM's complain about work life balance on here when that is totally indicative of poor time management on their part. I'm consistently in high regard with my management and I'm home by 5 everyday if I want to be. The job is tough, but the amount of autonomy and responsibility you have along with pay, growth, and benefits really makes it an awesome place to work. It takes emotional toughness.

Cons

People with cons for the company are those who are being intensely supervised because of poor performance, which makes perfect sense. Underperformers are over supervised. What's wrong with that?
