Pros

Current opportunity - the industry and the company are in a period of rapid change, investing in infrastructure, etc., so creativity and outspokenness are more valued than they once were. The culture is changing.

Cons

The company's reputation, and the current governmental ownership, are a little tough to deal with these days - especially when most of us had zero to do with the bad press AIG has received, and because AIG is paying the government back for the stupid risks taken by other companies (like Goldman Sachs, Barclay's, Deutchebank, Societe General. et al). Maddening some days, and it definitely means that salary growth is under a lot more scrutiny...at least for now.

Pros

Huge Company. If you want to work overseas there are opportunities...if you know the right people! Benefits package was recently reviewed. Newer staff get a much better package now days. (longer serving staff did lose out though in the revamp) A good place to "learn the ropes" about insurance, the company is still respected for its product innovation and underwriting discipline. Flexible working package (opportunity to work from home)

Cons

Constant restructuring is unsettling. A sense of change prevails but this has been ongoing for nearly 4 years. A lot is expected of employees at all levels. Management can be somewhat autocratic Lay offs are a constant threat given the ongoing restructuring and cost reduction exercises. Recently introduced grading system is not fully understood or accepted in the organization. There is a feeling of mistrust around how this is has been rolled out. A better job market will certainly see a huge swathe of lower level staff leaving the organization.

Pros

Pay is good, so are the benefits.

Cons

Work environment is awful. Most people are extremely rude and aggressive. Would not recommended this company to anyone but the unemployed and then only as a temporary solution
