I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Uber (San Francisco, CA) in Feb 2015
Interview
I can't say exactly what the job title was to protect myself, but it was for an Individual Contributor role with a salary of $90K or so. I had applied online. Got a call from one of the recruiters--I was pleasantly surprised that he was not just a "tech bro" hustling a position (as many in-house recruiters are).

Question 1
Standard stuff---why do you think you can do the job; what do you offer that's outstanding, etc. And we talked for a fair amount of time, like a half hour or so; this was not just a 5-min "is this applicant a serial killer?" kind of screening. Next stage is he says: Looks great; I'm going to forward your info to the hiring manager for this position.
But--NOTHING comes of it. Nada. I do a few followups, and even get proactive, find the manager on Linked In and say I'm very interested. Never hear a peep from anyone. Come on, bro--have the decency to close the loop. I don't expect to get every job I apply for---but I do expect the same amount of courtesy my dentist's receptionist would give me.

Interview
I applied online and was contacted by a recruiter another day. we scheduled a meeting in the following week and the questions asked by the recruiter were quite detailed to the job. it was a 45 mins talk and after that i was asked to hear back from her in 2 days. so after 2 days i was introduced to a manager in sfo . the interview with the manager was not like an interview, more like the manager was asking me thoughts and ideas about promoting uber.
1 week after the interview with the manager , i didn't hear anything from them until i sent an email to the recruiter asking about the feedback. the recruiter told me they decided to have another direction.
i don't want to comment or argue that this start up is cheating the ideas from candidates or something because we all dont have the proof. but they way that they send the rejection letter only when i ask them is not cool at all.
p.s. it's not a cool way to cheat the candidates in order to grow the start up.
