Applied online and received the excel test as others described. This was followed by a phone and an in-person interview. A few days after the in-person interview I received an email requesting a time to set up a call next week to give me "feedback." The e-mail was very ambiguous, but I assumed that it must be good news if they wanted to talk to me over the phone.
I was wrong. After waiting 4 days for my phone call, the HR recruiter told me over the phone that I was not selected. They understood that the interview process was "grueling" so they said that they wanted to follow up with a phone call. They gave me a super generic explanation as to why I was not selected like "we thought you didn't understand our business model," (sorry Uber, your business model is pretty simple). Uber thinks this is a kind guesture, but unfortunately this was much worse than just getting the rejection via e-mail and not making me wait over the weekend thinking I had a job offer.
A more appropriate process would have been for Uber to notify me via e-mail that I had not been selected and offer a follow up call if I would like. I had to take time out of my busy schedule to simply be informed that I was not selected.
This is just a warning for any other applicants who get a weird e-mail about setting up a phone call about "interview feedback." Sorry, that means you didn't get the job, so don't waste anymore of your time.
