I had a first round interview for a role with Bokun. It went quite well and the HR rep told me she’d organise the next round the following day. Unfortunately, she never got in touch and completely ghosted me when I emailed her. I get employers might have a change of heart but a little common courtesy would be nice
While most of the interviewers were great, the hiring process is tedious and unstructured. The number of steps in the process increase as you go through the various rounds. I was informed of total of 3 rounds at the beginning but ended up doing 7 sessions in total over 1:1s and panel interviews.
I was also given an 'assignment' to complete, which took over 10 hours to get through, which is an immense investment of a candidate's time. Moreover, the task sent over was labelled for a lead position, but I was applying to a mid-level role.
During the interviews, I was also given the impression that key decisions will made by senior leadership without much say from hiring managers/team.
The HR kept me updated throughout the entire process, (except after the final interview).
While it is critical for businesses to ensure that they hire the best talent out there, in this case there was room for greater consideration of candidate's time.
Thank you for sharing your feedback- we're sorry to hear about your negative experience. We appreciate your candidness regarding the interview process as we strive to value each one of our candidates' time. We will be sure to discuss your concerns with our team in order to continuously improve the candidate experience.
The process will depend on how long or short they want to drag their feet. For me, it took 8 - 10 weeks.
Step 1: Call with HR (30 mins)
Step 2: Call with Designer (30 - 45mins)
Step 3: Call with leadership (30 - 45mins)
Step 4: Call with Marketing team member (30 mins) Right after that call is another with a member of the product management team (30 mins)
The above four steps took about 3-4 weeks, depending on scheduling. After I finished all my rounds, Tripadvisor went silent for a few days. I sent out follow-up emails, and HR gave a vague answer that they are going through some internal communications. They went missing for 3-4 weeks, saying that they had to figure out some "internal things" a few days after what I thought will be my last follow up (because if they like you, I assume you'd know the very next day) the HR sends an email saying that they are moving on. I asked for feedback which will be helpful for me as I look for other opportunities, and they didn't bother replying.
I feel bothered when you waste my time, Tripadvisor team.
