I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Target (San Francisco, CA) in May 2016
Interview
In short, they are not looking for security. They are looking for a "sales" rep who can spot theft. They make sales their biggest priority-- good luck preventing theft!!!
I have a Bachelor of Science and trained in wrestling, kempo, taekwondo, and fencing.
As the executive protection leader said, they are "not looking for people who can take down others". they are looking for people who can "promote sales as a method of payment" and who can talk people out of theft.
I my best guess of not getting the job is because I look scary and my looks may intimidated the executive leader. He introduced himself by informing me of none violent methods way before I even said anything.
Lastly he said he will get in touch with HR and concluded with a hand shake.
A day after, generic target email saying I was not selected.
Good luck target with your security measures, I do hope they promote them sales, too.

I applied in-person. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Target (New Orleans, LA) in Nov 2012
Interview
The HR department representatives were the most professional of all departments at this organization. I went through two rounds of interviews. First with the HR Lead then with one of the sales floor Team Leads. I felt like the process was very thorough an unbiased.
