      Software Engineer Development Interview

      May 13, 2012
      Anonymous employee
      Nueva Delhi
      Accepted offer
      Positive experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 days. I interviewed at Sopra Steria (Nueva Delhi) in Apr 2011

      Interview

I applied to the position of Software Engineer as a fresh college graduate finishing his B.Tech final year. Th hiring process was as follows: 1. Saw the job advertisement on a job portal for fresh college graduates. 2. Applied for the same. 3. The HR sent an email a week later wherein I filled my education details... 10th, 12th, Btech. 4. Called for written test a few weeks later. 5. From the 40-odd candidates called for written test, 8 were shortlisted for interview.. But the numbers varied for each batch.. I came to know that the first batch called for written test was 120- candidates strong and only 10 were shortlisted for the interviews/GD. 6. This is the Group Discussion round.. You would be seated in an absolute cracker of a conference room.. It actually gives you a few jitters walking into the conference room here... It really is an amazing one.. I would elaborate on the Group Discussion Round later. 7. This is the interview round. The interview for fresh college graduates is nothing short of a nightmare for many.. It depends on the person taking the interview. I would elaborate on this a little later in this post. 8. Thats it.. If you are hired, you are intimidated by mail. Now.. I would elaborate on eac of the above mentioned rounds... WRITTEN TEST: There are two rounds of written test: 1. Technical.. Mainly questions on pointers, stacks, queues etc.. 2. Logical Questions.. The noteworthy point about this round of written test is that no amount of MBA preparation helps. The questions are based on flow charts and test the program debugging skills of the candidate. As in... suppose you have written a piece of code on paper.. To check if it would work correctly, you would simulate the program flow and note the values of variables wherever they change.. This is the exact type of questions you would face here... And obviously, no MBA paper asks such questions and that is why, no amount of MBA preparation helps... Its just a test of your concentration powers. The written test is where most candidates are filtered.. If you are through with the written, pat yourself on the back because you are more than a halfway through. I say this because those called for the interviews are mostly selected... except for a few guys. If I were to give you numbers, of the 22 people called for interview & GD, including me, 19 were selected. GROUP DISCUSSION: The topic of GD can range from any social issue to a political one or an economic scenario. There's a whole range of topics and no topic is repeated between any two batches called for GD. The topic given to my group was "Private Colleges vs Public Colleges". Another topic that I heard of was "The role of youth in world asia and the world". A GD group generally consists of 10-12 people. Prepare well.. Also, if you are called for the GD and Interview (both are held on the same day), you will not be eliminated from the GD. INTERVIEW: Hoo boy..!! Doesn't matter if you are selected... If you make it to the interviews, you would take back some memories.. :) The interviews at Sopra are rather long.. The interview duration can vary from 30 minutes to 1.5 hours...although mine was over in less than 10 minutes and yes.. I was selected... :) (****Bragging A Little... are we??**** :P ) On a more serious note, the interviewers are the most senior people in the organization who report directly to the COO... so it is important to be well behaved but nothing stops you from cracking a ligt hearted joke here and there.. On the questions asked in interview and how to prepare for it.. All I would say is.. I don't know exactly how one can prepare for such interviews.. They are a test of your stress handling capabilities basically.. So the interview questions can range from your graduation level Physics/Chemistry/Maths questions to purely technical questions and to pure HR questions on hobbies etc.. The only common question you will find from all the interviewers is, "Tell me about yourself." And from their, they can ask questions base o your answers and also from a completely different topic.. So basically it differs from interviewer to interviewer. And once you are hired, accept my heartiest congratulations..!!
