Unusually odd interview. The company talks a lot about how much more diverse it is than its peers, but very clearly picked up on biased assumptions embedded in the questions. A lot of negative posturing about how hard and time consuming the work is and disbelief I could handle it or enjoy it. Company declined to give any feedback, which I also found unusual. Hoping if they read this and care they reassess how they do things.
I applied through an employee referral. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Slack (Dublín, Dublín)
Interview
The interview process was great, HR kept in touch with me the whole time and let me know what to expect at each stage. There were a few different rounds, but I heard back very quickly after each round.
I applied through a recruiter. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Slack (San Francisco, CA) in Mar 2018
Interview
The process consisted of: initial phone screen with the recruiter, second screen with hiring manager, onsite panel interview, onsite presentation to panel. It was well organized and the details were always clearly explained. Everyone, from the recruiter, to the recruiting coordinator and on to my eventual manager was also highly responsive.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
The questions were unique; I was asked to give a synopsis of my life journey, from college through the day I was in for the interview. I liked this because it made it very conversational and we had a few laughs along the way. I instantly felt like I would fit in to the culture here because we found out that we had a lot in common with each other.
