I applied through an employee referral. I interviewed at ServiceNow
Interview
I have applied for the senior product manager position through referral and had a great match with the job requirement. I was called for an interview at ServiceNow office. It was a great experience from the way my details were collected at the reception to the interviewer all set to meet me. It was truly tech-enabled process. As a Product Manager, I was really impressed with the experience that was created.
First round was a face to face interview with the engineering director and had an excellent discussion. He told me that he was impressed with a few of my answers and even asked me about my notice period. This gave me a lot of hope. I was scheduled to talk to a PM from US who interviewed me via video call late IST time. The interview went on well except for a couple of questions. Like any candidate, I too felt I could have done better. I was told that they will get back to me with an update. I was 50-50 on my selection.
This happened over a month back and I haven't heard from them yet. I am assuming that I didn’t make it to next round. That’s fine but at least the recruiters should have the basic courtesy to inform me that I didn’t make it to next rounds. The HRs at ServiceNow are not so ‘Human’ after all. This also shows the weakness in local Product & HR leadership.
I wish the folks had more courage or cared more to tell the candidates that they didn’t get selected for next steps in the process. At least it would end things logically. I wouldn’t apply next time for sure as I don’t want to work for a company that is insensitive and careless/arrogant towards the people. Even if it is one of the fastest growing companies in the world.
I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at ServiceNow in Mar 2018
Interview
Round one with senior manager in US and Round two with senior manager in India. After Round one I was asked to submit a document on a design problem. This assignment takes approximately one day and about 20+ pages. Interviewer in Round two dials in without reading the submission and then spends three minutes reviewing it during the interview and says he is running to another meeting and will read this doc later. Then I am told to submit another two pager on a hypothetical case relaxing some terms from assignment-1. I submit that as well and I am pretty sure that none of these submissions were read. During round-two the interviewer expresses concern that I do not have experience in particular domains. I explained to him in detail why that is not correct and how I can add value to the team. But he stuck to his own assumptions. That is fine, but if that was an issue then my profile should have been rejected at the resume level itself, interviews were unnecessary if they did not see a fit in the first place. I later checked the profiles and I am pretty sure that I am over qualified for this position and probably shouldn't have applied in the first place. Its been more than a month and I haven't received an update. I think they left it to me to reach a conclusion that it is a reject.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
None so special. Typically ask a E-R diagram for some hypothetical scenarios
Recruiter reached out to me requesting me for 3 time slots to conduct a phone interview. I replied with my available options. After that I never heard back from the recruiter. Sent 2 additional reminders to check if they had received my emails and to check if there was still any interest from their end.
Did not get a single response back! At least have the courtesy of responding to candidates even if you changed your mind for any reason, especially if you have initiated contact in the first place.
