      Marketing Manager Interview

      Nov 14, 2023
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at Sage

      Interview

I submitted my CV and cover letter via their recruitment portal. I was invited for an hour-long Teams interview. The invite listed the names of three panel members. I was not told in advance whether there would be another round of interviews or not. When I joined the online interview I saw that one of the panel members was not the same person mentioned in the interview invite. There was no explanation for that during the introductions. My prep had included researching the panel members named in the invite. At the end of the interview I was asked what my availability was and told that the panel had to interview more people the following week. I was informed there would be another interviewing stage with a set task and that they would be in touch in a couple of days. This never happened. I chased HR twice and only after badgering them was I told that 'on this occasion [I] have been unsuccessful.' A couple of weeks later the job was re-advertised. I found the whole experience unpleasant. The panel asked the questions in a robotic way. One person kept dropping off and the other appeared miserable and judgy. The lack of communication after the interview was unprofessional and I see that other candidates report the same experience.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

Boring competency-based questions such as: give us an example of a time when you had to deal with competing deadlines; tell us about a time when you had to influence a colleague; give us an example of when you worked cross-functionally and so on. There was zero interest in anything except rehearsed examples for specific situations. Good luck in your search for the perfect candidate.
