      Field Engineer Interview

      Dec 14, 2011
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      Midland, TX
      No offer
      Positive experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 days. I interviewed at SLB (Midland, TX) in Sep 2011

      Interview

We were flown into Midland, TX for the two day interview process. The flight there was a little tight because my flight had landed only 1 hour before the meeting time. Furthermore, I had to wait for a couple other candidates because there was only one driver. We arrived and was asked to do a small introduction to the recruiters (there were 4 during my trip). The introduction consisted of where you graduated, what field, your hobbies and they also asked you to choose: do a dance, sing a song, tell a joke. After that segment was completed we jumped straight to the presentations which we were given out prior to arriving in Midland. After the presentations, we were given a break for food. By this time its around 11 PM and we there were still more to do. We had to do a test, which we were asked build a catapult. My group came in last because none of us made a catapult before. Other groups thrived (I'm pretty sure they were given a heads up on the assignment). But, I also thought that the recruiters were looking more at how you communicated with other group members and not much the results. After the group project, we discussed benefits and finally was released to sleep (3 AM). At 7AM the next day, we boarded a bus and visited various SLB locations. We met some of the field engineers over there and most of them looked exhausted. I appreciated them going out of their way to talk to us and tell us the actual work they did. One thing I realized was that most of them didn't smile as much as normal people do =) We had lunch out in the field and then we visited one of the oil rigs. We got to witness the process of drilling and adding pipes. Do to the delay, we didn't get a chance to see the actual cementing part. We headed back to the hotel and was asked to do the final presentation on whether you feel the job is for you. Overall the experience was one of a kind and really opened my eyes on the actual field work these engineers do. Good luck!

      Interview

It was an on campus hiring. First they shortlisted based on CV. Then second round was group discussion where we were given abstract topics like "Half filled glass of water" and were asked to discuss. This was also an eliminatory round. The final round was more of a HR round, they asked behavioural questions, few puzzles (very easy) and general knowledge questions
