Interview
I recently went through the interview process for a Lead/Senior Software Engineer role at Rover. Over the course of several weeks, I dedicated more than 10 hours to different interview rounds, including an assignment that I had to develop on my own (circa 7 hours), and also live coding, system design discussions, and technical conversations. Despite this significant time investment, the process felt increasingly impersonal and disengaging.
In the final round, the interviewers seemed uninterested, which made it difficult to have a productive conversation. The rejection came two days later via a generic, automated email with no personalized feedback, no acknowledgment of the time and effort invested, and no constructive insights into what could have been improved.
If you’re considering applying here, be aware that the process is highly transactional, with little regard for candidate experience. I cannot recommend interviewing at Rover at all, unless you are prepared for an impersonal, one-sided process.
Companies that genuinely care about attracting top talent should engage meaningfully with candidates and offer thoughtful feedback, especially after multiple interview rounds.
