      Application

I applied online. The process took 5 weeks. I interviewed at Octopus Energy (Melbourne) in Nov 2023

      Interview

I recently interviewed for the Engineering Lead position at Octopus, and the entire process was a highly positive experience. From start to finish, the process took about 5 weeks, but I received support at each step. Begins with a 30-minute chat, and then there was a discussion centred around leadership and team management principles. The next stage was a technical take-home task. Nothing too complicated, took about 3-4 hours. After the task submission, I entered the System Design stage. This stage was somewhat T-shaped - and covered a broad range of topics with deeper dives into certain specific areas. I also received feedback within a few days after each interview stage, which helped throughout the process. The overall atmosphere during the interview was positive and respectful, and I never felt pressured or undervalued. Everyone was extremely polite and professional.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

Standard questions about my experience and other roles. Best management practices, questions about architectural decisions. The System Design stage was somewhat challenging.

The interview process was Casual & welcoming, and the personnel involved where knowledgeable of what they required to fulfil the role, the discussions was clear. It was difficult completing the interview by phone call, compared to me using Zoom / Teams in my current job role.
