      Interview

      1. Application & Resume Screening You submit your application online or via on-campus recruiting. McKinsey screens for academic excellence, leadership, and work experience. If selected, you’re invited to interviews, usually starting with a problem-solving assessment or phone screen. 2. Problem-Solving Test (PST) or Digital Assessment Traditional PST: A 60-minute multiple-choice test focused on math, logic, and business case questions (used less often now). Digital Assessment / Solve Game: A gamified test that assesses cognitive abilities and problem-solving skills (used more frequently now). This stage filters candidates before the case interviews. 3. First-Round Interviews Usually consists of two back-to-back interviews, each 45–60 minutes: Case Interview: A business problem where you must structure your thinking, perform quantitative analysis, and make a recommendation. Interviewers assess your problem-solving skills, logic, communication, and business intuition. Personal Experience Interview (PEI): Behavioral questions focused on McKinsey's values (e.g., leadership, personal impact, entrepreneurship, and resilience). You'll be asked to share specific stories from your past. 4. Second-Round (Final) Interviews Typically with more senior consultants or partners. Structure is similar: a mix of case and PEI interviews. Cases may be more challenging and require deeper insight or creativity. Final decisions are made after this round. 5. Offer or Feedback If successful, you receive an offer within a few days. If not, you usually receive feedback and may be eligible to reapply after a waiting period (typically 12–18 months).

I interviewed at McKinsey & Company (Tokio)

      Interview

It was a one-to-one interview with a consultant. It's a typical case study. The experience was traumatizing. I know my answers weren't great, the consultant was elegant and didn't bother to hide his boredom.
