I applied through college or university. The process took 1+ week. I interviewed at McKinsey & Company in Oct 2011
Interview
The first interview was two 30-minute interviews back to back. The first half was fit, the second half was a case. Fit questions were detailed -- "Walk me through one time when you lead a team," with plenty of follow-ups -- and cases were fairly standard.
Then the final interview followed, which was many more interviews with partners, each like the previous ones. Fit interviews were a lot more conversational.

Question 1
Walk me through one time when you led a team through a conflict.
I interviewed at McKinsey & Company (San Francisco, CA)
Interview
Interview was a straightforward case study, and a McKinsey-specific Personal Experience Interview. This was difficult but I was able to prepare, so it was not too challenging after preparation. The team was very kind throughout the process and I was able to request information on the interview style ahead of time.

Question 1
Tell me about a challenge and how you overcame it?
Passed the online test and then had a round 1 interview. I got a rejection call shortly after. Interviews were a mix of behavioral and technical. Difficulty depends on difficulty of case.
First you get an HR Round, then 2 back to back interviews then 3 interviews. The overall process took around 2-3 weeks, it was not very difficult very fast turnaround
