The first interview was over the phone. The recruiter read, verbatim to the website, about the company and what it had to offer. Once arriving I went to the front desk. The front desk said they did not have any information about my interview. After minutes, it was okay to take the elevator. The gentleman I met was very nice and brought me to a room. After a few minutes, the recruiter came in and introduced herself. We shook hands and immediately after introducing, she requested the documents she had asked me to fill out before. She said that I did not have all the documents, which was not true. She corrected herself, and said they were not in order. She began saying she was unsure who was going to be interviewing me. The email said there would four people. She asked questions about why I am interested in the company. While answering, she was very pushy about moving on. While answering, she gave a continuous head nod. Whenever I'd take a moment to stop she interrupted with an okay, and try to move onto the next question. I told her multiple times that I was not finished answering the question. She assumed I was finished answering and tried to move on whenever I stopped talking. Next, she stated that my background had nothing to do with the position I was applying for, and asked what makes me qualified to this position, when I had previously stated at the beginning of the interview. During the phone interview, she said that I would be doing data entry, which I have years of experience doing; however, she stated that my position serving at a restaurant had nothing to do with sales. Next, she asked what I think about culture in the workplace. After answering, she said that not many people know how to answer that question, like my answer wasn't right. This was her last question. After she finished, she unwilling asked if I had any questions. When I did ask the questions I had, she rolled her eyes, and gave very quick, open ended answers. Shen then left the room to grab the next interviewer. The next interviewer was someone who held the position I was applying for. She had worked in retail and so I identified with her, as I work for a retail firm as well, but in a different capacity .She was great. She made me feel comfortable and was genuine. After her questions, I thanked her and she left. My next interviewer was an operations manager, who was just as genuine and nice as the person before. She asked pretty much the same thing as the previous interviewers. Finally, the hiring manager came in, one hand holding a glass of water and the other with a laptop. She began the interview asking a question that I needed a second to think about. Instantly, she assumed the question was difficult, stating that she's asking more difficult questions than the previous interviewers. Giving me a couple seconds to answer before saying something. While asking her first question, she opened her laptop and started reading the screen. Although this was my first time having a professional interview, I thought it was a little unprofessional, but what do I know. I felt unwanted and uncomfortable. After more questions, she asked if I had any questions. Although the Hiring Manager and the Recruiter both seemed to have the same attitude, the hiring manager at least tried to seem a little more engaged .One question I asked was, "What does success look like for someone in the position I'm applying for, and what makes someone in this position be successful?" After asking the question, she went to her laptop. She literally, looked up the position online, and picked a few things that were most important to her. I wish I could have used a laptop to answer some of the questions she had asked. After, the recruiter came back in saying I was supposed to have another interviewer, but was in a meeting so we could just end the interview. She probably could have said the interview was over, knowing that I did not know who was interviewing me next, but felt appropriate that my interview wasn't important enough to be interviewed. At this point, I could have cared less about who came in with the amount of disrespect I received by, mainly, the recruiter. I was in that room sitting for 2.5 hours. While leaving, I asked the recruiter when I would expect to hear back from her about the interview. She said that she was very busy, and unsure. Maybe by the end of the week, or maybe next week. If I didn't hear from her, I should email her. The interview ended around 4:00pm. I received an email from her the next morning at 8:10am saying I did not get the position. In closing, this is a company that I am very interested in working for. Surprised? Although I was appalled by the lack of care these few people treated me, I still would like to work for this firm. I think the product is exciting and far beyond any of their competitors in the field. I am trying for a second interview, hopefully with different people!
