Felt like a bait-and-switch scam in hindsight. Three-stage interview - initial screening with HR rep, followed a week later by a phone interview with the hiring manager then a final stage F2F with HR, hiring manager and his director several weeks later. An unconditional verbal offer was made the next day and based on this - and subsequent verbal assurances - I relocated with my wife from Wales to Berkshire to take up the position. Silly me. After eight weeks of continual promises that the formal offer was almost ready (they even went as far as providing an income reference to my landlord's agent) the reneged the offer, citing contractual problems with the customer I was supposed to be supporting despite this issue never once being mentioned before. And no compensation offered.
In over 20 years of working with large telco multinationals I have never seen such appalling behaviour. I am currently seeking legal advice.
