The most incompetent interview process I’ve I ever had. There was miscommunication regarding salary from various people in the process, dropping their initial amount by $20k. Was belittled the entire time due to my age and was told my internship experiences don’t count as working experience at all, despite obviously having many years of experience after the fact. Questions about my marital status and age were asked in order to frame me as inexperienced/young and not worthy of the asking salary. Funny though, because after all that nonsense they made me an offer. Guess they’re just desperate.
I applied through an employee referral. The process took 6 weeks. I interviewed at Hearst (New York, NY) in Jan 2019
Interview
Lengthy. Started with a former colleague with a referral. Submitted resume and then was in touch with the team at HR. Phone call with the Head of HR and then the assigned HR team member to the position. In person meeting then set up with both HR team members. Interviews were then set up with the business side and edit side. Background check took about 2 weeks due to former employer being slow to answer. Was in constant touch with HR and the hiring manager. Once offer was made went back and forth on final negotiations. Final offer was made and accepted. So enjoyed working with the HR team.
I applied via Handshake which was a service provided by my university. I had two phone calls, one with the person who would be my direct boss and then another with her boss. Both were very kind and warm on the phone and just wanted to get to know me as a person. Both calls were around 20 minutes. Several days later got an email offering me the job.
