I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Hearst (New York, NY) in Jan 2011
Interview
I had submitted an application for another internship a year prior that i didn't get. I got a call asking if I was interested in interviewing for the new role. HR had held on to my resume. I was impressed that they did that, across magazines.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
They asked me about stories I had worked on at previous internships. They also asked me about what I was studying and why I thought that would be useful for the internship. Then we chatted for 20 minutes, I think to see if we got along.

Interview
Very pleasant interview-- I was just speaking to an assistant a little older than me, so everything was informal, although you could tell they were looking for specific skills in their candidates. HR was not involved at all until after I accepted the job.
I submitted my resume and cover letter and then I received a reply back. I went in for the Interview and it took around 15 minutes. Mostly, they ask you to describe yourself and then they explain the intern position, role, and tasks to you. Then they expect you to ask questions. Therefore, have questions ready.
