Google Sofware Engineer Intern interview questions

two interviews on the same day, each interview is 45 min, one average question. both question solved correctly, optimized, but they replied after more than one month that there were no current open projects to join. if there is no open projects, why interviewing too many students? the interviewing process was very slow.
