They asked me for a lot of paperwork, offered me a position, and suddenly before I started they ghosted me with no explanation or even an email saying I'm not going to start.

Very easy and straightforward. Most of the hiring process is done online when you first apply where you have to answer a few situational questions, a personality test, then a few questions where you have to identify patterns in an abstract sequence. I then received a call from them for a 5 minute chat after which they told me that I had got the job.
