      Sales Development Representative (SDR) Interview

      Feb 18, 2025
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      Concord, ON
      No offer
      Neutral experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied in-person. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Fastenal (Concord, ON) in Feb 2025

      Interview

interview process is unnecessarily long and time consuming. It started with the 1st phone screening where they asked very basic questions on your experience, availability, willingness to work overtime, etc. screening was followed by 1st round of interview, the person (Patrick Filardo) who took interview was very genuine and polite, asked few listed question on my experience and behavior. that was very nice interview. unfortunately was not able to get back to me in following 15 days. after 20 days of 1st round of interview. i was invited for 2nd round of in person interview. interview was okay unnecessarily lengthen, so many questions on behavior. through out the interview i was not sure that what they are focusing on. the position was sales development but according to job posting person with either customer service or sales experience can apply for that job. i had 2 years of customer service experience, so i applied for the position, never misrepresented my experience, i was very transparent through out whole interview. at the end of interview i asked feedback on my interview, patrick was as usual very nice, polite and genuine with his feedbacks. the other person(sr, director of international sales), i feel he was just being too demanding. he said ofcourse you made it to the 2nd round means we did like you, but usually we receive lot of application for one position. he added that most of the condidates are very good but we may be only looking for 1 person to fill the position, so we tried to select candidate based on their experience, if some one has the similar experience it will be easy for us to train them. i do understand their prospect but the point is here if the focus was on sales experience why they invite people with out sales experience. i mean i spend 6 hours to reach the interview place and $100 just to be there. who will reimburse my money and time i spend just to hear that they were looking for someone with sales experience. trough out the interview they wanted to see how i will deal with certain situation but no one wanted to focus on what i will be offering, what i can do and what kind of potential i hold. here i am not suggesting anything but after being a big company they should be able to respect candidates' time, resources and efforts. there might be 1000 applicants who got rejected because of not having related experience after 2nd round of interview, and never asked for feedback on the spot and never knew the actual reason of rejection.
