I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at CIBC (Montreal, QC) in Apr 2013
Interview
-10 min phone interview w/ recruiter, just to get an idea about me and basic overview of my level in speaking French.
-35 min face-to-face interview 1 wk later. Had to to role play; followed suggestion to take control of conversation. Awkward to do since I've never done phone sales. Interviewer tried to give the let me think about offer and talk to my spouse reply. Ad-libbed and thought of an answer to get around that. Guessing interviewer liked that I tried to save the sale. Very nervous during interview, esp speaking in French. Interviewer left room for a few min, thought I bombed interview. When interviewer came back. pleaded my case in French that even though have no experience in finance, selling is selling; it's just a matter of being given a chance to learn and persevere. Then was given yellow instruction on what to expect from HR; plus welcomed me aboard.
-Rec'd and read letter offer. Had to fill out background check forms; got them day before deadline. Background check done by Backcheck. Asked questions about criminal record; education; employment history, to confirm dates worked in past 5 yrs; have you been unemployed past 10yrs, if so when and how long, except when attending school; give names of 3 job performance references. Now just waiting to see if all goes well. Supposed to start training in 10 days if all goes well.

Experience of dealing with irate customers. Your goals in 5 years. Very conversational, in the end offered me another opportunity and I decided to take it.
