I applied online. I interviewed at CIBC (Chicago, IL) in May 2025
Interview
I applied online and had my initial recruiter screening over a month later. Unfortunately, the recruiter didn’t come across as very professional, and the conversation felt impersonal.
The first round interview was scheduled with someone from the data team, but the interview coordinator gave me a different name than the person who actually conducted the interview, which felt a bit disorganized. The interview itself was straightforward, but I received a rejection just a few days later.
Overall, the process was short, but I didn’t feel particularly valued as a candidate, and the experience lacked the professionalism I expected.

Interview
After 3 weeks from my application date, a Mortgage Retention Team Leader reached out to me first to confirm my qualification and introduced briefly the training schedule of this position. Then the HR and Hiring Manager scheduled an interview with me separately (but on the same day) after another week. After 3 days, I got the verbal offer from the Hiring Manager, and after another 2 days I received the offer letter.

I had two interviews in total, both conducted over the phone. The process was very straightforward, with a focus on behavioral and situational questions. I recommend thinking outside the box when discussing the solutions you would offer.
For example, one of the questions was:
"Tell me about a time you had to hire for a hard-to-fill position. How did you approach it? What steps did you take, and what resources did you use?"
