3 round coding questions, how to build a http requestion, hr round salary expectations, working hours, benefits of living expenses and traffic product development and engineering department experienced software enginerring postion
I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at ByteDance (Singapur) in Apr 2023
Interview
4 rounds - first 3 with the hiring manager & team, the 4th round is with the HR Failed at round 3. Interview process is quite slow, it can take at least 1 week in-between. So the entire process will take 1-2 months. HR response is slow and poor, do not expect much unless you're called up for the next interview.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
Varies depending on your interviewer: - Share more about your work experiences - Projects that you've worked on - Challenges you faced and how you resolved them - What do you know about regulatory risks that Bytedance/Tiktok might be subjected to? - What do you think this role's job scope entails? - What kind of risks do you think you'll be analyzing? (Tiktok shop, scammers, false reporting, inappropriate content) - Describe a potential risk you might face and what approach you'll take to address it - Do you think user reports are a reliable metric for risk assessment? - What metrics would you look at?
There were 3 technical rounds (LC, general knowledge, sys design) followed by 1 BQ. The coding questions were relatively simple, a mix of easy-medium on LC. They would ask on general knowledge as well (e.g. TCP vs UDP, use case for OS 'a' file mode, some questions on tools you used before in your resume). Systems design was a little more difficult but nothing crazy. Though I've heard bad stories, interviewers in my case were all very professional and welcoming. Only weird part was the final round where they try to pimp your ego and sell you on the basis the interview you had "aced" was very difficult compared to FAANG and blabla. (yea, nope, let's not kid ourselves) (maybe long ago before their mass hiring phase) The pitch would have been more convincing otherwise without the disconnect.
