No interview, but the hiring process (almost fully automated, has been an utter and complete disaster...worst I've ever experienced in 40 years of working. After getting through their "intellect" test online, I was "offered" a position and told to pick my location and shift, but each time I picked any shift and location they listed as "available" it would tell me it wasn't actually available and I would have to just give up. Then Amazon would email and text me dozens of times asking me why I hadn't picked my shift. Um, what? Finally I managed to get past this hurdle, and went to the pre-employment meeting where they give you basic information and begin your background checks and drug testing. The HR person who ran this meeting kept saying we "accure" sick time at...instead of the actual word which is ACCRUE. When the HR person in charge doesn't know a basic word like accrue, I worry. Rightfully so it seems now.
Almost three weeks later I still hadn't gotten any contact from Amazon saying I'd passed my checks and it took a great deal of effort to even find a phone number to try and speak to anyone. When I finally got one and called, they said they'd filled my position because I'd never contacted them back for my start date. Huh? They never contacted me in any way after the drug and background checks and we were told to be patient and await them contacting us. I told them this and they said fine, whatever, and scheduled my employee orientation for early September and my first start day the following day.
What ensued after this was total chaos. I'm not exaggerating that I would get between 4 and 10 text messages from them almost every day for two weeks that would go something like this:
Text: We have cancelled your upcoming appointment
Text: We have scheduled you for an upcoming appointment for 9/10/18 at 3pm
Text: We have cancelled your upcoming appointment
Text: We have scheduled you for an upcoming appointment for 9/11/18 at 2pm
Text: Job openings now available in Anytown, USA, please apply online
That was just in a 5 minute period the day after I had set up my orientation. One evening I even got a text at 9pm saying that my appointment was now at 12:30am, the following day. So they wanted me to come to orientation in 3.5 hours from the time of the message, and in the middle of the night? By the time my supposed orientation date came along I was completely and utterly making a wild guess at what the correct time and day was. And I was wrong. They had changed the date to the day prior and now, once again, told me my job was now taken. I had to literally scream bloody murder to the phone drone that was clearly only reading from a script and not listening to a word I said, but finally I got the supervising drone to grasp that none of this was my fault, initiated by me, nor anything but complete and total incompetence on their part and they found me another opening, but now I cannot go to orientation nor start my new job until mid -October. I was originally supposed to start work the first week in September. So I've been without pay or any income, benefits, or anything for SIX EXTRA WEEKS thanks to Amazon's utter incompetence. Frankly, I really don't even think I want the job any longer because I don't have any confidence they'll even pay me correctly. But they ought to be paying me for these six weeks they've screwed me out of.
The idea that any of their folks in HR have a safe, paying job while I'm sitting around unpaid and idle, when they are so completely incapable of performing the most basic functions of their jobs is inconceivable to me. Believe me, I'm taking these extra six weeks and aggressively looking for another position elsewhere in hopes I can skip this one altogether.
