Interview
Hackerrank, then selected for first round interviews, which consisted of a resume screen with an interviewer. They just asked me general questions about me and my resume. My interviewer didn’t seem very competent because she didn’t seem to know anything about software engineering, but asked me questions about it (favorite part of SWE, what I was looking for in the role, personal projects, etc). I had to explain a lot to her, and I feel like she misrepresented my experiences and qualification because she was telling me what she was writing down. She was short-handing everything I was saying, and it felt like she wasn’t actually listening to me or understanding much of what I was saying. She then said I’d hear back in a week, but then didn’t follow up with me. I sent her a follow up email 2 weeks after my interview and another 2 weeks after that, both of which received no response. A disappointing and unorganized process for a company so big.
The interview process consisted of: 1 15-minute phone screen, 1 90 minute take-home assessment, 2 1 hour online live interviews. One technical, one behavioral. The technical interview consisted largely of conceptual questions with a short live-coding portion where we were tasked with editing the code we wrote in our take-home assessment to perform a new task.
